Singer Island is named for Paris Eugene Singer, the 23rd child of sewing machine mogul, Isaac Singer. The island’s first record of settlement dates back to 1906 with Inlet City, where a community of fisherman and squatters from the Bahamas and Riviera Beach came to the island to dry their fishing nets.

In the 1950s, Singer Island evolved into the hotel, resort and condo community for winter residents. Today the sleepy resort town is bustling with growth and activity. The rebuilding of the old Ocean Mall and its surrounding commercial area has kicked-off the revitalization of the area in recent years. Although it’s primarily a resort community, Singer Island is home to a population of over 7,400 in-season and just over 5,600 year round.

Singer Island is comprised of three communities in addition to their state parks: Palm Beach Shores, Riviera Beach and Lost Tree Village. The town of Palm Beach Shores is approximately 181 acres located on the south end of Singer Island. It stretches from Bamboo Road to the Palm Beach Inlet. Palm Beach Shores has its own police and fire departments, town government, and public beach. It is also home to Singer Island’s commercial marinas, restaurants, hotels, resorts, time-shares and residential homes.

The City of Riviera Beach is located partly on the main land and partly on Singer Island. The portion located on the island covers about 530 acres and includes 130 acres of submerged land in Lake Worth. While the exclusive gated community of Lost Tree Village is located at the northern end of the island and occupies over 500 acres. Founded in 1961, this private community is considered to be one of the most beautiful gated golf communities in the country. The gated enclave is home to over 500 exclusive residences featuring single-family homes, luxury condominiums, private yacht docks, tree-line streets, a stunning Clubhouse and more.

The waters of the Gulfstream are closer to land on Singer Island than any other place in North America. Along with the myriad of water sports, the beaches are also known for providing the nesting habitat for endangered turtles including the Leatherback and Green turtles. Singer Island has the highest number of Leatherback nests in the country. The city and its residents are very active in protecting these nests and the threatened species, especially during nesting season.

Phil Foster Park, Ocean Reef Park and The MacArthur Beach State Park are the island’s flagship nature areas comprised of the guarded beach on the west entrance, Ocean Reef Park on the eastern most point, and many acres on the north end of Singer Island for MacArthur State Park. In 1989, The MacArthur foundation provided funds to improve the facilities to the large section of land donated by MacArthur for the state park. Featuring almost 225 acres of land and an additional 535 acres of submerged land for snorkeling, diving, biking and hiking, the state park is ideal exploration spot for the eco-adventurer.
