The ultra-exclusive community of Jupiter Island strives to preserve its natural resources and extraordinary beauty. The Jupiter Inlet and its picturesque Jupiter Lighthouse notably mark the island’s entrance. Famed for its unspoiled natural beauty, the island is home to a two–lane scenic beachfront road with little traffic, hidden mansions, and ideal for biking. It is also home to renowned Coral Cove Park and Blowing Rocks Preserve. Coral Cove Park is known for extensive natural limestone rock formations and is ideal for good snorkeling. Blowing Rocks Preserve offers a nature center for exploring along with life guarded beaches, playgrounds and picnic areas at both beaches.

From an Englishman’s purchase with the intention of developing the land as a pineapple plantation in 1821, to the 1925 sell out to a company called Picture City for a concept to bring production companies and movie stars to the area, encouraging them to make their homes on Jupiter Island, the history of Jupiter Island is rich and entirely focused on the land. What began in 1815 with a land grant from the King and Queen of Spain came full circle to the preservation of the land in 1968. After changing hands several times over between 1821 and 1933, finally in 1934 Joseph V. Reed, William S. Barstow, and Samuel F. Pryor formed a new Hobe Sound Company and purchased it for $25,000 and 20% of the common stock in their new company from The Hyde Group. Culminating the continuous changing hands in 1944, Joseph V. Reed and his wife, Permelia, bought out the other two owners’ shares and retained ownership under their family name until 1996. In 1945, the Reeds donated the land for the police and fire stations and also gave the land that is now the Hobe Sound Beach to Martin County for use as a public beach.

Golf, too, has had a long history on this secluded island. The Scottish pineapple plantation owners played golf as early as 1890s on the sand islands that now comprise the Jupiter Island Golf Club. The nine-hole course was built in 1922 and completed in 1957 with the second nine holes designed by architect, Dick Webel.

Jupiter Island is ranked top in the country for having the highest median home sales and the highest per capita income of any inhabited place in the country (according to Worth Magazine). Famous residents of this small town include celebrities, entrepreneurs, professional golfers, politicians, publishers and dignitaries.

Just a few minutes away on the mainland residents can find world-class shopping and dining, entertainment, and even more golf and water sports. Jonathan Dickenson State Park is also just a short drive away, as is I-95 with access to Palm Beach International, Fort Lauderdale and Miami airports.
